  1. Ahoy Spirit Crew!

Roland Hanson got some pictures of you at this link in your first race Saturday while Vento Solare was waiting for the AP flag to drop for the ORC class.  We couldn’t pass on real time comments without jeopardizing the “outside assistance” rule, but can now after the race so you can make adjustments next time.

At the end of the photo series you’ll see sail pictures.  In the light air, the leech on the main was too tight stalling the upper half as seen by the upper two telltales being pasted back.  Loosen the vang and mainsheet and pull the traveler up in those conditions to get more twist.  If the upper batten is curling in too much, put on some backstay to open it up at the top. Counterintuitive in light air, but sometimes the backstay helps.

Next look at the stern quarter view and see the transom in the water.  Move more weight forward and if needed put bodies down below on the leeward side forward in the light air. The boat will be less “sticky”.  Good luck Sunday
