Around Aquidneck and other happenings

So the season is spooling up fast.  After a somewhat frustrating Bridge Fiasco, I’m really happy we bounced back with a solid AAR.  The reach across the sound and run up the Sakonnet were the stuff of dreams — flat and breezy.  As a team we had really great “control” over the boat, managing the available energy through excellent kinetics, sail trim, sail selection and rig management. Driving was a pleasure and simple because I wasn’t fighting the boat — everything was balanced (just barely, which is good!) so we had no wipeouts, even tight reaching up to Fogland R6.  This equates to good VMG.  Consequently, we were rewarded with a nice 4th, later becoming an even nicer 3rd when Mischief determined they had missed a mark of the course.    Great job everyone!

All of the practices have been enjoyable and super beneficial — thank you for “investing” in them; we get out of it what we put into it.  : )

As you likely know, JYC #1 was a cancel due to fog.  Thank you for promptly returning the required forms and we are all set for JYC #2.  Too bad it couldn’t have been today — gorgeous down here right now!  Next Tuesday is looking okay so far.  BTW, we are in a really fun Class B with the J/80s, the J/70 Sparkle, a J/105, the Evelyn 32 Hawk, Nick’s E33 and Floating Point.  Great mix!

We get a couple of weekends off and then hit it pretty hard after that — Cuttyhunk, EGYC Annual, Faux Fest (okay that’s just a party), BI weekend.  Cutty is open for business and I am checking on rafting at moorings with the harbormaster.  EG will be largely as typical — just no party!  : (((  Delivery the day before.  Mooring off of the club.  Return to Newport Sunday.

Please note that Bill has graciously updated our Crew Manager calendar as races have moved around.  J/Fest, Leukemia Cup and NYYC being the notable ones.  Make sure you are signed up as I’m going to start crewing those events.  Please also note at the moment there is a conflict between NYYC and Prince Henry.  I know, shocking that NYYC didn’t reach out to Twenty Hundred Club to deconflict.  ; )  So Twenty Hundred is working some options. The weekends later in the season are filling with delayed/rescheduled races so this is a challenge, but hopefully things will work out.

All for now.  Thank you!

EC
